Overview
Founded in 1853 as Beaver College in Beaver, Pennsylvania, the institution relocated to Glenside near Philadelphia and was renamed Arcadia University in 2001 to reflect its broader mission and coeducational, comprehensive university status. Originally established as a women's seminary, Arcadia evolved into a diverse liberal arts institution known especially for its longstanding leadership in international education, having operated one of the oldest and most extensive study abroad networks among American universities since the 1940s.
