Big Sandy Community and Technical College was established in 2003 through the merger of Prestonsburg Community College and Mayo Technical College, as part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) restructuring. The institution traces its roots back further through its predecessor institutions, which served the Big Sandy region of Eastern Kentucky for decades.
