Overview

Established in 1974 as the East Carolina University School of Medicine, the institution was renamed in 2000 to honor the Brody family in recognition of their significant philanthropic support. Founded with a specific legislative mandate to increase the number of primary care physicians serving rural and underserved communities in eastern North Carolina, Brody has built a strong reputation for producing family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatric physicians who remain in-state to practice. It is consistently ranked among the top medical schools nationally for primary care education and for its social mission impact.
