Overview
Founded in 1930 as the first coeducational public liberal arts college in New York City, Brooklyn College was created through the merger of the men's Brooklyn campus of City College and the women's Brooklyn campus of Hunter College. It became part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system in 1961 and has since built a strong reputation for academic rigor, affordability, and producing generations of successful alumni, including numerous judges, scientists, artists, and public officials. The college is particularly well regarded for its programs in film, business, education, and the sciences, as well as its historic core curriculum.
