Overview
Founded in 2018 as a partnership between the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Carle Health, Carle Illinois College of Medicine was created to train a new kind of physician-innovator equipped to design and apply engineering and technology solutions to medical problems. It is widely recognized as the first U.S. medical school built from the ground up around engineering principles, integrating disciplines like data science, artificial intelligence, and biomedical engineering directly into the medical curriculum. Its small, highly selective class sizes and innovative project-based learning model have quickly earned it national attention as a bold experiment in medical education.
