Overview
The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine was established in 2010 following a landmark $80 million gift from philanthropist Charles E. Schmidt, becoming Florida's newest allopathic (M.D.-granting) medical school at the time and the first in the state's public university system in decades. It emerged from FAU's earlier partnership programs with the University of Miami and was fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, admitting its inaugural independent class in 2011. The college has built a reputation for its small class sizes, individualized mentorship model, and integration of geriatrics, integrative medicine, and biomedical research into its curriculum.
