Overview
Founded in 1767, Columbia's medical school is the fourth-oldest in the United States and was the first in the American colonies to grant the M.D. degree. Renamed in 2017 following a landmark gift from P. Roy Vagelos and Diana Vagelos, the college has long been recognized for excellence in medical education, biomedical research, and clinical care, producing generations of physician-scientists and leaders in medicine. It is consistently ranked among the top medical schools in the country for both research and primary care training.
