Overview

Edinboro University was founded in 1857 as the Edinboro Academy and later became a state normal school focused on teacher training before evolving into a comprehensive public university within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). It has a long-standing reputation for its education programs, art and design offerings, and affordable access to higher education for students from the region. In 2022, Edinboro integrated with California University of Pennsylvania and Clarion University to form Pennsylvania Western University (PennWest), though the Edinboro name and campus identity persist.
