Overview
Founded in 1866 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Edward Waters University is the oldest historically Black college or university in Florida and one of the oldest HBCUs in the nation. Originally established to educate freed slaves, the institution has grown from a small church-affiliated school into a four-year university offering baccalaureate and graduate-level programs.
