Overview
Founded in 1863 as the Kansas State Normal School, Emporia State University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Kansas and has long been recognized for its teacher education program, one of the first and most respected in the region. Over time it expanded into a comprehensive university offering programs in business, arts and sciences, and library and information management, while maintaining its reputation for producing skilled educators who serve schools throughout the Midwest. The university operates the School of Library and Information Management, one of the few such graduate programs in the country with a strong distance-learning presence.
