Overview
Founded in 1978 as an experimental undergraduate division of The New School, Eugene Lang College was established to offer a rigorous, discussion-based liberal arts education grounded in progressive educational philosophy. It was later renamed in honor of philanthropist Eugene M. Lang, a major benefactor. The college has built a reputation for its interdisciplinary curriculum, small seminar classes, and emphasis on critical thinking, social engagement, and self-designed concentrations, attracting students drawn to nontraditional, student-centered pedagogy.
