Overview
Established in 2006 and renamed in 2010 following a major gift from Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim, the College of Medicine is one of the newer medical schools in the United States, built with an emphasis on community-oriented primary care. It gained full LCME accreditation and has grown a reputation for its innovative curriculum, including the NeighborhoodHELP program, which embeds students with households in underserved Miami communities for longitudinal service-learning throughout medical school. The college emphasizes producing physicians attuned to social determinants of health and committed to practicing in Florida.
