Overview
Florida Memorial University traces its origins to 1879, formed through the merger of two Baptist-founded institutions, making it one of Florida's oldest institutions of higher learning and one of the nation's historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The university relocated to its current Miami Gardens campus in 1968 and has since built a reputation for producing graduates in education, business, aviation, and the sciences, with a strong tradition of community engagement and social justice advocacy. FMU is affiliated with the Florida Baptist Convention and maintains a mission centered on academic excellence, character development, and service to a diverse, often first-generation student population.
