Overview
Founded in 1967, the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine (renamed in 2018 to honor longtime USA President Frederick Whiddon) is the medical school of the University of South Alabama in Mobile. It has built a reputation for producing primary care physicians who serve Alabama and the greater Gulf Coast region, with a strong emphasis on community-based clinical training through USA Health, the university's academic medical system. The college is closely tied to USA Health University Hospital and USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital, providing students extensive hands-on clinical exposure from early in their training.
