Overview
Founded in 1797, Geisel School of Medicine is the fourth-oldest medical school in the United States, established by Dr. Nathan Smith with the support of Dartmouth College. Renamed in 2012 after a major gift from Dr. Seuss's family (Theodor and Audrey Geisel), the school has built a strong reputation in health policy research, primary care training, and biomedical sciences, closely affiliated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. It is particularly well known for its leadership in health services research and outcomes-based medicine.
