Overview
Germanna Community College was founded in 1970 as part of the Virginia Community College System, taking its name from the historic Germanna colony established by German settlers in the 1700s in the region. The college was created to provide accessible, affordable higher education and workforce training to residents of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Spotsylvania, and Stafford counties, as well as the city of Fredericksburg. It has grown to become a key educational and economic driver in the region, known for its transfer partnerships with four-year universities and its responsiveness to local workforce needs.
