Hardin-Simmons University was founded in 1891 as Abilene Baptist College and was later renamed after benefactors James and Jennie Hardin and John and Mary Simmons. Affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the university has grown from a small denominational college into a comprehensive institution offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees.
