Overview
Huston-Tillotson University traces its roots to 1875 and was formed in 1952 through the merger of Tillotson College and Samuel Huston College, two institutions founded to educate freed slaves and their descendants in the aftermath of the Civil War. As the oldest institution of higher education in Austin, Texas, and a designated Historically Black College and University (HBCU), HT has built a legacy of academic perseverance and community uplift.
