Overview
Founded with roots tracing to the Lawrence Scientific School (1847), Harvard's engineering programs were reorganized into the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in 2007 and renamed in 2015 following a landmark $400 million gift from alumnus John A. Paulson. SEAS operates as one of Harvard's degree-granting schools but remains distinctive in that undergraduates are admitted through Harvard College, with SEAS providing concentrations in engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics. It has rapidly built a reputation for interdisciplinary research spanning bioengineering, robotics, materials science, and artificial intelligence, leveraging Harvard's vast resources and connections to Harvard Medical School, Harvard Business School, and MIT.
