Overview
Loyola Marymount University traces its roots to 1911 and was formed through the merger of Loyola University (a Jesuit institution) and Marymount College, a Catholic women's college, with the modern combined university taking shape in 1973. Rooted in the Jesuit and Marymount educational traditions, LMU emphasizes the education of the whole person, service to others, and academic rigor across the liberal arts, sciences, business, and professional fields. It has become especially well known for its School of Film and Television, one of the top film programs in the country, as well as strong business and communications programs benefiting from deep ties to the Los Angeles entertainment and business industries.
