Overview
Established in 1977, the Marshall University School of Medicine was created in response to a physician shortage in West Virginia and the broader Appalachian region. Renamed in 2001 in honor of Joan C. Edwards following a significant philanthropic gift, the school has built a reputation for training primary care physicians committed to serving rural and medically underserved communities.
