Founded in 1828, the Medical College of Georgia is the eighth oldest medical school in the United States and the founding college of what is now Augusta University. Originally established as the Medical Academy of Georgia, it has grown into a major academic health center known for producing a significant proportion of Georgia's practicing physicians.
