Morehead State University was founded in 1922 as Morehead State Normal School, evolving through several institutional stages before achieving university status in 1966. Located in the Appalachian region of eastern Kentucky, MSU has built a reputation for providing accessible, quality higher education to first-generation college students and residents of the surrounding rural communities. It is particularly recognized for its Space Science program, one of the few in the nation, and its 21-meter radio telescope used for NASA-related research and education.
