Overview
Founded in 1867 in Augusta, Georgia, as the Augusta Institute to educate freed Black men, Morehouse College relocated to Atlanta in 1879 and adopted its current name in 1913. It is the only historically Black liberal arts college exclusively dedicated to educating men, and it has built an extraordinary reputation for developing Black male leadership across virtually every field. The college is best known as the alma mater of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and for its rigorous liberal arts curriculum combined with a strong emphasis on character development, service, and leadership.
