Overview

Founded in 1876, Prairie View A&M University is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in Texas and one of the nation's oldest historically Black universities. Established under the Texas Constitution and later designated a land-grant institution, PVAMU has evolved from an agricultural and mechanical college into a comprehensive research university within the Texas A&M University System. It is particularly well regarded for its College of Engineering, nursing program, and Cooperative Agricultural Research Center, and has a long tradition of producing Black engineers, military officers, and educators.
