Overview
Roosevelt University was founded in 1945 by educators and students who broke away from the Central YMCA College in protest of racial and religious quotas, naming the institution after President Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to reflect its commitment to equality and social justice. From its inception, Roosevelt admitted students regardless of race, religion, or gender, becoming one of the first fully integrated universities in the United States. The university is headquartered in the iconic Auditorium Building in downtown Chicago, designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler, and has built a reputation for programs in business, performing arts, education, and the social sciences.
