Overview
Texas Southern University was founded in 1927 and is one of the largest historically Black universities (HBCUs) in the United States. Originally established as Houston Colored Junior College, it evolved through several name changes before becoming Texas Southern University in 1951. The university is best known for its Thurgood Marshall School of Law, its College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and its strong programs in public affairs, business, and education, producing a significant share of the nation's Black attorneys and pharmacists.
