Overview
Founded in 1897 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as a Catholic college for women, Trinity Washington University was established to provide higher education to women at a time when many institutions excluded them, including Catholic University nearby. Located in Northeast Washington, D.C., Trinity built a reputation for rigorous liberal arts education and has counted numerous prominent women in politics and public service among its alumnae, including Nancy Pelosi. Today it operates as a coeducational institution with expanded graduate and professional programs, while its undergraduate women's college retains its founding mission.
