Overview

Founded in 1943, the United States Merchant Marine Academy is a federal service academy located at Kings Point, New York, dedicated to educating and training officers for the U.S. Merchant Marine, national defense, and maritime industries. It is one of five U.S. service academies and the only one authorized to fly the service flag due to the sacrifices of its cadets and alumni during World War II. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree, a U.S. Coast Guard license, and a commission as an officer in a U.S. armed forces reserve component, most commonly the Navy.
