Overview

Founded in 1802 by an act of Congress signed by President Thomas Jefferson, West Point is the oldest of the U.S. service academies and one of the oldest continuously operating military posts in the nation. Situated on the site of a strategic Revolutionary War fortification along the Hudson River, the academy has produced generations of military and civilian leaders, including numerous generals, astronauts, business executives, and two U.S. presidents. It is renowned for its demanding blend of academics, military training, physical development, and character/leadership education, all delivered tuition-free in exchange for a post-graduation service commitment.
