Overview
Founded in 1845 by Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft in Annapolis, Maryland, the United States Naval Academy has trained officers for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps for over 175 years. Known for its demanding STEM-focused curriculum, rigorous military training, and strict honor concept, USNA consistently ranks among the top undergraduate engineering and public colleges in the nation. Graduates, called midshipmen while enrolled, are commissioned as Ensigns in the Navy or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps upon graduation and owe a minimum five-year service commitment.
