Overview
Founded in 1963 as Florida Technological University to support the nearby Kennedy Space Center, UCF was renamed the University of Central Florida in 1978 to reflect its broadening mission. Located in Orlando, the university has grown into one of the largest universities in the United States by enrollment, with particular strength in engineering, computer science, optics and photonics, hospitality management, and modeling and simulation research tied to the region's defense and simulation industry cluster.
