Overview
Founded in 2010 when the University of Massachusetts system acquired the former Southern New England School of Law, UMass Law became the first and only public law school in Massachusetts. It was established to increase access to affordable legal education in a state historically dominated by expensive private law schools. The school quickly gained ABA accreditation and has built a reputation for strong bar passage improvement, public interest law, and a mission-driven focus on serving underrepresented and first-generation law students.
