Overview
Founded in 1943 as the Marine Laboratory, the school was renamed in 1974 to honor Lewis Rosenstiel, a major benefactor, and has since become one of the top-ranked graduate schools for oceanographic, atmospheric, and geological sciences in the United States. It is renowned for hurricane and climate research, coral reef and marine ecosystem studies, and its close ties to NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, which is co-located on its campus. The school grants graduate and some undergraduate degrees and has produced influential research on hurricane forecasting models, ocean acidification, and coastal resilience.
