Overview
Founded in 1952, the Miller School of Medicine was the first medical school in Florida and remains one of the largest private medical schools in the United States. Renamed in 2004 following a major gift from businessman Leonard M. Miller, the school has built a strong reputation in areas such as ophthalmology, oncology, neurology, and organ transplantation, anchored by its affiliation with Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Health System (UHealth). Its Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is consistently ranked the top eye hospital in the nation, and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Florida.
