Overview
Founded in 1997, the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) was established as part of the University of Pikeville with a specific mission to address the severe shortage of physicians in Appalachia and other rural, underserved regions. It was the first medical school in the region and has since become a key pipeline for producing primary care doctors who remain in the Appalachian area to practice.
