Overview
Founded in 1867, the University of South Carolina School of Law is the oldest law school in South Carolina and one of the oldest continuously operating law schools in the nation. In 2015, the school was renamed in honor of Joseph F. Rice, a prominent trial attorney and alumnus, following a substantial gift supporting the school's mission. The school has built a strong regional reputation for producing judges, legislators, and practitioners who dominate the South Carolina legal profession, and it is known for its trial advocacy and environmental law programs.
