Overview
Founded in 1891 by lumber baron James Huff Stout as the Stout Manual Training School, UW-Stout has a long history rooted in practical, applied education. It evolved through the 20th century into a comprehensive university and in 2007 was officially designated Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, the only campus in the UW System with that distinction, emphasizing career-focused, hands-on learning integrated with science, technology, and design across its curriculum.
