Overview
Founded in 1904 through a bequest from Arioch Wentworth, Wentworth Institute of Technology began as a trade and technical school for men in Boston and has evolved into a comprehensive polytechnic university. It became coeducational in 1972 and gradually expanded from certificate and associate programs into a full four-year and graduate institution, building a strong regional reputation for producing career-ready engineers, architects, designers, and construction managers. The school is best known for its cooperative education (co-op) program, which places students in paid, real-world work experience integrated into their degree path.
