Overview
Founded in 1977, the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) was the first osteopathic medical school established on the West Coast and remains the founding college of Western University of Health Sciences. It was created to address a shortage of primary care physicians in medically underserved areas of California and the broader region, and it has since grown into one of the largest osteopathic medical programs in the country, including a satellite campus in Lebanon, Oregon (COMP-Northwest). The college emphasizes a whole-person approach to medicine rooted in osteopathic principles, manipulative medicine training, and a strong commitment to producing physicians who serve rural and underserved populations.
